Hey everyone!

In our recent lecture on video editing, we delved into the world of cinematic storytelling through the lens of technology. Using the footage we captured back in week 3, we embarked on a journey to master the art of editing using ScreenFlow. Let me walk you through some highlights and challenges of this experience.

Challenges in Editing:

As the audio and video file were exported separately. One of the biggest challenges I encountered was syncing the audio and video seamlessly.Syncing the audio with the video footage was a crucial step in ensuring seamless playback. Leveraging the recorded audio files, I meticulously matched the sound waves with the raw audio in the video. By aligning key audio cues, such as the clapping at the beginning of the recording, I was able to achieve synchronisation that enhanced the overall coherence of the video. It took some time and patience to find that perfect synchronisation point where both the audio files and raw footage aligned flawlessly. Additionally, as someone who has never used ScreenFlow nor had any prior knowledge in regards to video editing, navigating the software posed another challenge. However, with determination and guidance from our lecturer, I gradually familiarised myself with the tools and techniques.

To create a cohesive narrative, I approached the incorporation of three different angles. By editing the clips simultaneously, I utilised techniques such as fading in and out of shots and standard cuts. This helped in maintaining a smooth flow between the different perspectives, ultimately enhancing the storytelling aspect of the video. I also took the opportunity to try and experiment with various special effects and transitions to elevate the cinematic quality of the video. From subtle fades to dynamic transitions, each effect added a layer of visual intrigue, capturing the audience's attention and enhancing the overall viewing experience.

Integrating video editing and camera work into music education is essential for several reasons. Firstly, it enables students and teachers to produce high-quality recordings of performances and rehearsals, which can be utilized for self-assessment and enhancement. Viewing one's own performance offers valuable insights into the technical and expressive facets of music that might not be as noticeable during live practice.

Our journey into video editing was both challenging and rewarding. As we continue to explore the intersection of technology and music education, mastering the art of editing will undoubtedly be a valuable skill in music education.
